Details of the Chapel for Ceremonies
The Chapel at DeWitt Center
FCSL (Foothill Center for Spiritual Living) is located in an historic chapel dating from when the DeWitt property was a military medical facility. High ceilings, tall windows, massive beams, wainscoting, stained glass, a steeple, brick walls and other architectural elements combine in this charming New England-style chapel. The sanctuary has a peaceful and dignified atmosphere. The picturesque front of the chapel is bordered by a large, park-like area of mature trees and well-maintained lawn.
The sanctuary accommodates 95 guests in the cushioned white pews. The room can hold up to 120 guests with additional seating by folding chairs (provided by prior arrangement) at the sides and back of the sanctuary. Configured with the pews only, the chapel has a wide center aisle for a traditional procession, right and left aisles and space at the back of the room.
Rental of the chapel includes use of the sanctuary, downstairs bride’s room, groom’s area (administrative offices and small bathroom) and main bathrooms. FCSL is not responsible for valuables or clothing brought to the chapel and all personal property, decorations, etc., are expected to be removed after the conclusion of the ceremony.
The chapel is suitable for wedding ceremonies and, upon approval, simple post-ceremony refreshments. No reception facilities or kitchen are available.
A wide variety of reception venues are within a few miles of the chapel. A list of potential nearby reception sites is available upon request. One venue, the DeWitt Senior Center building is a short walk from the chapel and can be rented from Placer County.
Wedding Dates and Times
Weddings can be held Saturdays, Friday evenings or Sundays after 2 p.m.. Parking is ample at those times and there is little traffic.
Rental of the chapel is for a maximum of 3 hours for the ceremony (including set up and clean up) and a one-hour rehearsal within a few days of the ceremony. We request that you and your guests consciously honor the contracted times.
Decorations
- The classic architecture of the chapel requires few additional decorations to provide a beautiful wedding setting. You may provide your own flowers and decorations and/or use the silk flower arrangements and pew bows available from FCSL. No tacks, pins, tape or nails may be used to secure decorations the walls or pews. An aisle runner must be used if flower petals are to be spread.
Music
- Use of FCSL’s electronic piano/organ or sound system requires the service of our sound system specialist (see fee schedule). FCSL’s professional pianist or professional vocal soloists are available by referral. The minister can suggest appropriate music tailored to your ceremony.
Church Affiliation , Vows and Counseling
- We do not require that you be a member of FCSL or any other church for your wedding ceremony to be here. FCSL welcomes couples coming from different religious backgrounds, interfaith marriages, as well as commitment ceremonies for same-gender couples.
There is no particular form for a wedding or commitment ceremony that we use. Our minister can assist you in creating vows, with traditional or contemporary options or incorporating principles of New Thought.
We welcome a couple participating in the shaping of the ceremony and writing their personal vows. Our minister would expect to have one pre-marriage counseling session with you to prepare your vows, plan the ceremony/service, and rehearsal.
If you wish, you may discuss the use of a different officiate or a”co-officiant” with our minister.
